Sycamore Hollow is the home to the creations of milliner Glenna Combs, as well as a studio dedicated to promoting various fiber arts by hosting classes in millinery, eco dying, felting, quilting, and many others handcrafts. From here you can browse a selection of Glenna's unique works, or hone your own skills by attending a workshop with talented artists from all over the nation.

Love Hats! Come make your own with private instructions from Glenna Combs. This is a 2 day course of basic millinery study in which you will learn about commercially prepared felt hat bodies, how to measure for a custom fit and block felt over a form, apply stiffener, add wiring to the brim, and finish all edges. You will also learn how to measure, prepare, and sew in the sweatband. Finally, you will learn techniques for using the leftover felt for the fantastic embellishment of your hat. This is a 3-day course of basic millinery study in which you will learn to work with and block sinamay, how to measure for a custom fit & how to block this flat straw over a form. You will learn how to block the brim and crown separately and then to sew them to each other., add wiring to the brim, and finish all edges. You will also learn how to measure, prepare, and sew in the sweatband. Finally, you will learn techniques for using the sinamay to create embellishment of your hat. This is a two class in which you will learn to prepare building foam for carving and when it is prepared into blocks you will learn to carve it into hat crowns and brims over which you will be able to block your next hat. These are inexpensive to make and are great for the beginning milliner who may not have the wooden hat blocks that they need. In this 3 day class you will learn how to block and prepare a buckram base and then block a fabric covering for it. You will learn how to finish all edges and attachment methods for keeping the hat in place, Buckram is one of the older methods of creating beautiful headwear and it is often difficult to find beginner-level classes in this medium. By the end of the class, you should have one completed headpiece similar to the ones in the pictures. You will learn techniques for embellishing your hat as well. In this 2-day introduction to dyeing on watercolor paper with leaves and plant materials, we will be gathering leaves, flowers, and berries from the area to use. We will learn how to treat the paper with solutions so they will soak in the tannin from the plants. We will learn a little about using non-toxic plants and mordents. We will learn the process for heat immersion of treated bundles & steaming paper bundles for greeting cards imprinting. By the end of the class, you will leave with a beautiful set of 12 greeting cards with envelopes for each. These natural dyes found in nature all around us leave suttle and beautiful designs.
